JungleDisk
Recently I have signed up to JungleDisk which basiclly is a really cool and easy way for me to back-up my important files (Mainly my photos!). The service uses Amazon S3 which is a wordwide network of interlocked data centers with fast network connections between, in a nutshell this means that wherever I am in the world I have acess to my files at the fastest speed my local connection can take. What’s really cool about the service is the way you interact with it. Once you have installed the software which creats a local network drive it’s just like the data is stored right next to you. I can drag files in, move them around and download them – Anywhere from the world!
The data is also enscripted when you upload it, meaning your private documents are in safe hands, the only way to decode is using there special algorithm and your password. This means you can upload those important documents that you don’t want to loose neither stolen or acessed by a unauthorised person.
You pay for the data you use, which is good because other services you buy in bulk which may mean more money for them but it’s not good for us – the consumer. Amazon charges 17 cent (I think) per GB to the EU servers and 15 cent for the US servers. You also pay for bandwidth and requests (1 cent per 10,000).
So far I have to say I think the service is excerlent and would recommend it to anyone who needs to backup their files – so everyone! Don’t leave your data to chance, keep it safe, keep it backed up
Now excuse me, i must backup my collection of 1950s music…(Sarcasm..)
